How do I upload my own rubric?

How do I upload my own rubric?

Uploading a rubric is a straightforward process that can be done quickly using the AI tool. This method eliminates the need for manual entry, making it efficient for users. Selecting the appropriate options for rubric creation, such as using a template or starting from scratch, allows for customization based on user needs.

The AI tool efficiently scrapes and imports rubric criteria, preventing the tedious task of copying and pasting from existing documents. Previewing the rubric allows users to ensure that the content and structure meet their expectations before finalizing and saving the changes.

Upload or import

Select the Create from a file option once you have selected + Create New Rubric from within within the Rubric Library. The modal that appears gives you options to:

  • select an existing rubric saved on your device
  • import a rubric you have stored on Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive
  • use your webcam to scan a paper-based rubric (single page rubrics only).

Handwritten rubrics (whether scanned to your computer or photographed by your webcam are supported through our advanced optical character recognition (OCR) engine. The first part of the screen provides you with options for uploading or importing your rubric file, including using your webcam to take a picture of your rubric (single page rubrics only).

You will then be presented with options to select Student level, Grading intensity, and Language settings.

  • Student Level – This reflects the academic level of the students whose work is being graded and will default to the level assigned to the rubric. You can change it when setting up the assignment, however, if you so choose.

  • Language – You can set both the input and output languages here, but the default assumes that both are the same. The options you have are UK, USA, Canadian, and Australian English, as well as Spanish and French. If you wish to produce a grading report that is in a different language than the essay (e.g., a Spanish essay but an English report), then then uncheck the box below the language options that says 'Your output language is the same as input language' and choose a new output language from the selections that appear below.

  • Grading Intensity – While the scoring criteria are most importantly set in the rubric itself, you can instruct the AI to apply those criteria in a Light, Moderate, or Strict manner by selecting a grading intensity option.

Hit Continue and the software will convert your uploaded/imported rubric so that it is compatible with EssayGrader's rubric-based grading format and you will be presented with a screen where you may review and, if necessary, edit the criteria, descriptors, and scoring levels of your rubric.
