How do I enter points in my rubric if I have a range of scores within a level?

If your rubric uses score ranges (for example, 7–10, 4–7, 1–3), you can still create it in EssayGrader. The key is to use the highest number in each range so EssayGrader can calculate scores across the full scale.

  1. Create a New Rubric

  • From the Rubric Library (access in the Sidebar), choose + Create New Rubric and choose the Build from scratch tab.
  • Select the level (e.g., Middle School), grading intensity (e.g., Normal), and language (e.g., US English).
  • Give the rubric a title, such as Grade 6 English.

  1. Add Criteria & Levels

  • Enter the criteria name (e.g., Language).
  • For each level: a) Add the level name (e.g., Perfect, Good, Average), and then b) Enter the highest number in that level’s range:

Example:

Perfect → 10 (for 7–10)

Good → 7 (for 4–7)

Average → 3 (for 1–3)

  1. Save the Rubric

Once saved, EssayGrader will score essays across the full 1–10 range using the top value for each level.

💡 Tip: Using the highest number ensures that the rubric covers the entire scoring scale consistently and allows EssayGrader to assign any score within the range.
