Select the Upload or import tab once you have selected + Create New Rubric within the Rubrics Library. You will be presentedn first with options to select Student level, Grading intensity, and Language settings.

Student Level – This reflects the acadmic level of the students whose work is being graded and will default to the level assigned to the rubric. You can change it, however, if you so choose.
Language – You can set both the input and output languages here, but the default assumes that both are the same. The options you have are UK, USA, and Australian English, as well as Spanish and French. Start from scratch

Choosing the 4th tile on the New Rubric screen (access by selecting + Create New Rubric from the Rubrics Library takes you to the manual rubric creation workflow. You will first be presented with settings for Student level, Grading intensity, and Language. Hit continue and you will see a simplified version of the rubric editing screen with only one criterion and one scoring level.

Give your rubric a name

Provide a descriptive name that reflects the nature and level of the rubric. You will want to be able to identify it within your rubric library, particularly if you have a number of custom rubrics. Each should have a unique and descriptive name.

Add criteria

Presumably you already have a clear idea of the types of criteria that you want to apply to the grading for which this rubric will be used. Fill in the first Criteria title and then add additional criteria using the button at the bottom until you are satisfied with your list.

Add scoring levels

Before you add scoring levels within the software you will need to know how you want to score assignments using this rubric, whether all criteria will be equally weighted, and the total score.

Duplicating a rubric using a template

You can duplicate any rubric by using it as a template when creating a new rubric. In the Rubric Library (access from the sidebar) click + Create New Rubric and choose the Build from an existing template tab.

When Build from an existing template is selected, you'll see the rubric library appear. The default option is your own rubrics in the My Rubrics tab. The Platform rubrics that are bundled with the EssayGrader software can be selected from the Platform rubrics tab. You can choose any of these as a base for a new rubric that you have customized from the selection.

Select the rubric you wish to use, noting the subject matter, student level, and type of essay (where noted in the title), then scroll down to the very bottom of the list and select Continue.

Change template – If you wish to change your rubric selection, you can click Change template in the Details section of the next screen and this will take you back to the Rubric library to select a new template. Once you've got the rubric you want, you can start to make changes to the criteria, descriptors, and scoring levels.
