Why is my account downgraded and/or without content?
Why is my sidebar empty and all my work gone?
What happened
- Your content is tied to the email you used when you created it.
- Choosing a different Google profile at login (e.g., personal instead of school) creates a separate account on a new plan.
- New accounts—whether Basic or paid—start with no content. Even if your other account was also Basic, the new Basic account will still be empty.
Fix it quickly
- Sign out of EssayGrader (avatar → Sign out).
- On Google’s account chooser, click Use another account and select the email you normally use for EssayGrader.
- Sign back in. You should now see your workspaces, assignments, rubrics, and uploads.
Tip: If your browser keeps auto-selecting the wrong Google account, open an Incognito/Private window and sign in there so you can choose the correct profile.
Not sure which email is the right one?
- In the (empty) account, open Account Settings to see which email you’re currently signed in with.
- Search your inboxes for EssayGrader receipts or welcome emails—the recipient address is the account that has your content.
- If your school gives you multiple Google identities (e.g.,
name@school.org
andname@students.school.org
), try each.
Can you merge or move content between accounts?
Prevent this next time
- After logging in, quickly check Account Settings → Email to confirm you’re on the right account.
- Use a dedicated browser profile for your school/work Google account.
- When clicking Continue with Google, make sure the correct Google email is selected before proceeding.
FAQ
Did EssayGrader delete my data?
No. Your data is still attached to your original account. Switching back to the correct Google email restores access.
Will I be charged twice?
No. Creating a new Basic account does not start a new paid subscription. Your existing subscription remains on the original email.
