Regrading essays (entire assignment or single submission)
There may be a number of reasons you wish to regrade essays, whether it's every essay submitted for a particular assignment or just the work of one or more students.
Regrading all essays in an assignment
If you wish to regrade every essay that has been submitted to date for a particular assignment, the steps are as follows.
- Identify the workspace in the sidepanel where your class and assignment are located.
- Navigate to the assignment you wish to regrade. You may need to expand folders within the structure to find the correct assignment (you may also select the folders to open them within the main window, once they are shown there).
- Select the assignment you wish to regrade (the last item in any folder structure is always an assignment).
- Click the Edit and Regrade button in the top right of the assignment window. This will open the grading settings panel.
- Review the grading settings and make changes as you wish. Options include:
Options include:
- the Rubric used for grading
- the Student Level
- the assignment Language(s) (leave the checkbox checked if both input and output languages are the same)
- the Feedback Detail Level
- the Grading Intensity
- any Custom Instructions
For a detailed discussion of the grading settings, please review the Set up your first assignment – Source material and grading settings help center article.
- Click Save & Regrade to begin the regrading process and return to the assignment window and essay list.
- Review the feedback reports (discussed in detail in the Review the feedback report article in the help center).
Regrading a single assignment
There are two ways to regrade an individual assignment.
From the essay list
- Find the assignment you wish to regrade.
- Scroll through the list
- Use the search field
- Use filters to narrow down the list
- Click the three dots to the far right of the essay to bring up the dropdown menu.
- Select Regrade from the dropdown menu
- Review the grading settings for the assignment in the window that opens (as above). These include:
- Rubric to be used for regrading
- Student Level
- Feedback Detail Level
- Custom instructions
- Either click Regrade to proceed with regrading the assignment, or select Close to return to the assignment and essay list without saving any changes to the settings.
From the feedback report
The only difference between the process of regrading from the essay list and from the feedback report is the fact that you have already selected an essay for review and are regrading from the report window.
- Select the three dot menu in the top right of the report.
- Select Regrade from the menu.
- Review the grading settings for the assignment in the window that opens (as above).
- Either click Regrade to proceed with regrading the assignment, or select Close to return to the feedback report without saving any changes to the settings.
